The week of June 26th seen the band arrive at Pacifica Recording Studio’s in Los Angeles, Ca. to begin the long awaited process of recording their debut album “Abandoned No More”. With well respected recording artist and record producer Barry Levenson (Storyville, Canned Heat etc.) and engineer Glenn Nishida(Mavis Staples, Jackson Brown etc.) at the helm, the sessions went by smooth and without a single complication or hitch. Mon. and Tues.26th & 27th saw The Abandoned; Bruce Krupnik, Tony Jack Grigsby and Stan Whiting, lay down the music tracks with scratch vocals by Orphan Jon. Weds. the 28th was used to record 10 vocal tracks by Orphan Jon. Thurs. the 29th Orphan Jon laid down one more vocal track and guest artists were brought in to do theit thing. Johnny Main and JR Lozano (The 44’s), Mike Malone (The Mighty Mojo Prophets & Marc Ford and the Neptune Blues Club), Hank Van Sickle (John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers), Mike Sandberg and Producer Barry Levenson (Canned Heat) delivered some great solo’s and fills to the album. The following weekend of July 1st and 2nd the mixing began with Barry, Glenn and Orphan Jon working together to get the results they wanted on the tracks. The following weekend of the 9th Bruce came back into the studio to lay down one more track with Orphan Jon, it was an acoustic track that Orphan Jon wanted to have on the album as a special thank you to the many fans and supporters of the band. In just 2 takes the raw recording of a song neither Bruce or Orphan Jon had previously worked together on was completed. The goal of the band was to go into the studio and cut an album that they would be very proud of. This album is just that. The sound, style and energy that the band brings to a live performance was captured, and the end results OJATA believes their fans and friends will love and enjoy. Look for the album to be a Spring 2018 release. Until then please keep up to date on the process of the album both here and through the bands Facebook page.
